The Henderson Swamp and Atchafalaya Basin in Louisiana are not only home to unique wildlife and beautiful scenery but also boast a rich culture and tradition of hunting. Alligator hunting, bowfishing, duck and goose hunting, and turtle hunting are popular pastimes in the area, with locals and visitors alike enjoying the thrill of the hunt.

Alligator hunting has a long history in Louisiana and is regulated by the state's Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The hunting season typically runs from late August to late October, and hunters must obtain a permit to participate. Hunters use a variety of methods to catch alligators, including baited hooks, treble hooks, and firearms. Once caught, the alligators are brought back to shore, skinned, and processed for their meat and hides.

Bowfishing is another popular hunting method in the area, with hunters using specialized bows and arrows to catch a variety of fish and yes, turtles. Softshell and snapping turtles are legal to hunt in Louisiana, and bowfishing for them is typically done during the summer months when they are more active.

Duck and goose hunting is also popular in the area, with hunters taking advantage of the migration patterns of these birds. The hunting season usually runs from November to January, and hunters must obtain a permit to participate. Hunters use a variety of methods, including decoys and calls, to attract the birds and bring them within range of their shotguns.

Much of Teal season runs concurrent with Alligator  season, and we offer packages where customers can include hunts for Teal, Turtles, and other game during their adventure with us.

Turtle hunting is yet another popular hunting activity in the area. Softshell and snapping turtles are legal to hunt in Louisiana, and hunters use a variety of methods, including traps and spears, to catch them. Once caught, the turtles are brought back to shore and cleaned and processed for their meat.

The culture and hospitality of the people in the Henderson Swamp and Atchafalaya Basin are also a significant draw for visitors. The Cajun culture of the area is unique and vibrant, with its own language, music, and cuisine. Visitors can enjoy traditional Cajun dishes such as gumbo and jambalaya, listen to live Cajun music, and learn about the history and traditions of the people.

Local businesses and tour guides offer guided tours of the swamp and surrounding areas, providing visitors with a chance to experience the beauty and excitement of the area firsthand. The people of the area are known for their hospitality, and visitors are often welcomed with open arms.
